New Release Movies: Toy Story 3 (2010)

We start of with a fantastic opening scene involving a train heist, bridge explosion, force field dogs, force field eating dinosaur and a giant pig space ship.  The toys are back and better than ever.  We skip to a montage of Andy and his family growing older and by the end of it Andy is 17 years old and off to college.  The toys are screaming out to be played with as it appears they haven't been played with for a long time.

Off to Sunnyside.
Andy has to decide whether or not to put his toys in the attic or into the trash.  On their way to the attic there is a mix up that end up with the toys at the Sunnyside daycare centre.  At first the toys are worried about going to the daycare centre but when they arrive they find out that they will be played with 5 days a week forever and they are pretty stoked about that.  Everything turned out perfect.  Or did it?  No it didn't.

The big boss man Lotso and his posse
The daycare centre turns out to be more like a prison run by an evil old bear name Lotso, where new toys have no chance of survival.  The only course of action is to bust out of there.  Lead by Woody the toys devise an amazing prison break like no other.

What did I like?  Everything.  But here are the top points:

Seeing the toys again.  11 years since Toy Story 2 came out and to think the original was made 15 years before this one is amazing.  I was in grade 6 and still am a huge fan of the original.

Quantom: I loved seeing the toys as well. Also reminded me of all the toys that I used to play with as a little tacker.

Michael Keaton as Ken.  Star of the show.
Michael Keaton as Ken.  Probably stole the show with his portrayal of the girls toy that enjoys nothing more than changing his outfit.  His scenes with Barbie are hilarious, especially him showing off all his clothes.

The emotion.  The way this movie makes you care about animated characters who aren't even human is amazing.  You really find yourself hurting inside at the thought of the toys never being played with again.  But I guess this is what 15 years (well 16 years now after watching it tonight) of spending time with these characters.

Spanish Buzzlighter.  Seriously wet your pants funny.

The prison break.  Edge of your seat stuff.

What didn't I like.  There wasn't too much I didn't like about it.  Randy Newman music still annoys the fuck out of me but luckily there wasn't too much of that.

You got a frieeeeend in me!

Some new characters, including Mr Pricklepants.
The only thing that I didn't like about the flick was them not giving Timothy Dalton more screen time as the awesome Mr Pricklepants.  If he was given as much screen time as Ken, then I think he would have stolen the show.

All in all it is an amazing movie that will make you laugh and almost cry.  It really tugs at the heart strings in the final act.  Compared to the other 2 movies it is easily ahead of the lackluster second movie but probably on par with the original.  The original to me still stands up today and is probably still the best Pixar movie ever, which in turn means the best computer animated movie ever.  A fitting third movie in what has been a great trilogy.

Also loved the flick, but in a way found the ending pretty tragic. The cast was fantastic as usual, and the new additions were also good. Lotso is pretty terrifying!

8.5/10.
